Microsoft Email & Calendar Integration FAQ

This article answers common questions around the Microsoft Email & Calendar Integration regarding access, as well as the instances of Outlook we can support.

If you are looking for steps on how to connect your email & calendar, see this article.

What version of Microsoft Outlook/Exchange does Alyce integrate with?

O365 - Yes
Exchange Online - Yes
Exchange Hybrid (Exchange 2016 CU3 or greater) - Yes
Exchange On-Premises - No

We use Microsoft Exchange in an on premise (non-cloud) instance. How does Alyce work with these kinds of set ups?
For maximum security and reliability, Alyce currently only supports integration through the Microsoft Graph. Customers with Exchange 2016 CU3 or greater can enable cloud SSO. For more information, please see this article.

What kind of access does the Microsoft integration require for email and calendar?

When you integrate Alyce with your Microsoft 365 account, you are asked to grant certain permissions. The table below summarizes those permissions, why we ask for them, and how they are used.

Permission What information does this give Alyce access to? How is this permission used by Alyce?
Sign in and read user profile Allows users to sign-in to the app, and allows the app to read the profile of signed-in users.  -Match your email address with Alyce and MS SSO for authentication-Allows the Alyce app to read basic company information of signed-in users
Send mail as user Allows Alyce send-as access to your MS email -Allows Alyce to send emails as the user-Emails to gift recipients will appear as though they were sent by you
Full calendar access -View free/busy time for the requested period.
-Create new events on the user's calendar. Read access for Alyce events only.
-When the gift recipient is ready to schedule a meeting with the user, we request this data to provide the up to date available time slots.
-When the recipient selects a meeting time, Alyce adds the meeting to the user's calendar.
Full persistent access No new permissions Allows the app to see and update the data you gave it access to, even when users are not currently using the app.

Is there a way to mass install the Alyce ↔︎ Microsoft email/calendar integration across my organization as an IT admin?

We don’t allow individuals to do this on their own.

At this time we cannot support the mass installation of the integration. Each individual user needs to configure and connect their own account. We can help advise on users requesting access to install the integration if you’re concerned users that should not be using the integration will try to install it. Just let us know!

As an IT Admin, how can I grant admin consent for the Alyce application without needing to field requests individually?

1. Within your Azure environment, find the Alyce MS Integration in the applications list. The Alyce application ID is a493fe7c-87f5-499e-a9b3-8efabf76915d
2. Grant admin consent for the Organization.
Microsoft's documentation for IT Admins on how to configure admin consent workflow in Azure is available here.
